Dennis and Linda Vik opened the bakery in September of 2008. Dennis is a former scientist who is embarking on a new career. Linda is a violinist and music teacher.
The House of Bread, is a unique micro-bakery featuring over twenty-five premium breads. The bakery is located in the Altura Shops at 2000 Carlisle Blvd. NE, just south of Indian School Road.

In addition to featuring over twenty-five premium breads, the bakery serves a tempting assortment of cinnamon rolls, muffins, and scones... all made from scratch each and every day. An assortment of sweets – cookies, brownies, berry bars, is also available The bakery offers a healthy lunch selection from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. daily. They will offer soup, salads and sandwiches made with premium quality Boar’s Head meats served on fresh baked breads. A selection of quality coffees featuring freshly ground organic coffee beans from Aroma Coffee will also be available.
The bakery features a wheat mill visible in the customer area where they stone grind their flour daily. Visit the House of Bread Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and treat yourself to the experience of watching bakers engage in the age-old trade of kneading each loaf by hand while you enjoy free samples of their work.
